Description
Big Twister is a unique variety of Juncus, commonly called rush, that sports twisted, dark green and glossy evergreen foliage resembling giant corkscrews. This plant creates a dramatic effect in consistently moist garden beds or in pots for the patio or the margins of the garden pond. A very interesting centerpiece or accent in container gardens. The foliage is also nice for cutting and adding to floral arrangements.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to 18 inches tall and wide, Big Twister Rush is ideal for use as an accent in garden beds and pots, planters and other containers. An especially attractive centerpiece in combination container gardens. Containers can be submerged in the margins of garden pond with the base of the plant just above the water line.
Growing Preferences
Big Twister Juncus is easy to grow and maintain in very moist to wet conditions in full sun to part shade. If necessary, the foliage can be refreshed yearly by cutting back the old stems in late winter. After doing so, bright, new greenery will emerge in spring. This duplicates what happens naturally in its northern most range, where the frost kills its greenery back to ground level.Â
