Description
One of our all-time favorites of the butterfly bushes, ‘Nanho Blue’ produces loads of elongated spikes packed with fragrant gentian blue flowers that contrast beautifully with the silver-grey, willow-like foliage. You and your butterflies and hummingbirds will enjoy the flowers from June to frost. Plant this one near a patio, deck or other outdoor living space where you can sit back and enjoy watching the show.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to 5 feet tall and wide in the north and up to 8 feet tall and wide in the South, Nanho Butterfly Bush can be grown in garden beds or containers. In containers it grows maybe half the size as it does in the ground. We suggest a pot of at least 15 inches or more in diameter. In the landscape it is deal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a colorful hedge. A fine addition to butterfly and hummingbird gardens, blue theme gardens, fragrance gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing:Â 5 feet for solid hedges or mass plantings; 10 feet or more for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Nanho Blue Butterfly Bush is exceptionally easy to grow. It thrives in full to mostly sun and isn’t too picky about soil type, provided the soil is well-drained and of average fertility. At least 6 hours of direct sun per day is recommended for best flowering. As with so many other plants, constantly soggy or wet soils can cause problems with the roots.
